Why clicks mislead
Most service businesses close on the phone. A click report shows how many people visited, not how many booked, and a channel that reaches people earlier in their research will always look worse on clicks alone. The question to answer is simple: what did each booked job cost?
The setup
- A dedicated landing pageChatGPT traffic lands on a page built for the conversation it came from, not the homepage.
- A unique tracking numberUse a call-tracking number shown only on that page, so every call is attributed.
- Tagged linksAdd UTM parameters to every ad link so analytics separate ChatGPT from other sources.
- Form attributionPass the source into your CRM or booking tool with each form submission.
- Booked-job outcomesHave the office mark each lead as booked or not, with the job value. A spreadsheet works to start.
What OpenAI's measurement partners add
In October 2026 OpenAI added conversion integrations with Hightouch, Tealium and LiveRamp, click-attribution partners including AppsFlyer, Triple Whale and Northbeam, and early geo-based incrementality testing with Haus, Measured and WorkMagic. Those tools are built mostly for online sales. They help a service business that books online, but they do not replace call tracking.

The monthly report
| Metric | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Spend | The denominator for everything else |
| Calls and forms | Raw demand the ads created |
| Booked jobs | The outcome that pays for the channel |
| Cost per booked job | The number to compare across channels |
| Revenue from booked jobs | Separates cheap small jobs from valuable ones |
Frequently asked questions
Can I see which ChatGPT conversation led to a call?
No. OpenAI does not share conversations with advertisers. You can see that the visit came from your ChatGPT ad and what happened after.
How long before results are meaningful?
Plan on 90 days. The first month is setup, the second produces enough calls to learn from, and the third shows whether the cost per booked job holds.
